The Alumni House Wedding Venue
The Alumni House has been around since the 1800’s, and what is so unique about this venue, it still has part of the original building inside the venue. It contains three different floors, that creates a flow your guests will appreciate, and a lovely patio space that can host cocktail hour or your reception. This venue can accommodate any bride with any price range, but there is more big news on the way!
I had the absolute pleasure of meeting and speaking with Kristen, the lead event assistant who gave me the best tour of the venue. She knows everything there is to know, and will assist each bride the best way she knows how. Also, as your Williamsburg Wedding Planner, I am so excited to announce they will be renovating the already elegant venue. By expanding to add a grand ballroom that can seat at least 400, which is more space, and more conducive for your guests. Construction will start April 2018. The Alumni House, is definitely a premier venue in Colonial Williamsburg. Below Kristen states, why she loves this space.

1. What do you love most about weddings?
I love seeing how the personalities of the bride and groom shine through with every detail of their big day. The details are one of my most favorite parts of the ceremony and reception.
2. What type of bride would love your venue?
All brides! What’s so fun about our space is that couples can really make it their own.
3. What is the price range to rent your venue? Is anything included?
For wedding receptions our price ranges from $2,325 to $3,600 depending on the day, number of hours for the reception, and whether they are William and Mary Alumni or non-Alumni. That’s one thing that’s often mistaken about our venue. Although we’re called The Alumni House, we host events for everyone, not just alumni. To host the wedding ceremony as well the reception, the cost is an additional $1,000. Included is an extra hour and the rehearsal the day before.
When a couple books The Alumni House, the entire house is theirs! They are welcome to use the space however they choose. Tables and chairs are included along with the setup and tear down after the event. We also have a lead event person along with staff that work hard before, during, and after the event to make sure everything runs smoothly. We help coordinate with vendors on the day of and assist our families with whatever they may need.
4. Where do you find design inspiration?
I find design inspiration through many of the wedding, design, and florist blogs I follow. Pinterest of course, is great way to get ideas and keep them in a quick and easy place for reference while planning. I love vintage pieces so I often find inspiration while antiquing or thrifting.
5. What makes you stand out from others in your industry?
Our venue stands out in the sense that there are so many different possibilities due to the unique layout of our space. The Alumni House has a historic part of the building where the bride and groom can be creative and use the different rooms in a variety of ways. We also have a wonderful outdoor plaza and terrace to allow for outdoor options as well. When you book The Alumni House, you have the house to yourself.
Our couples are also welcome to use any vendors they choose. We do have a preferred catering list with a variety of price points, but couples are welcome to choose outside the list for a small fee. Our couples are welcome to start bringing anything that they would like to get off their hands to store at the house the week of their big day; guest book, place cards, photos, etc.
Our location is wonderful as well! We have the beautiful and historic William and Mary campus as our backdrop, and Colonial Williamsburg is just a short stroll away along with many fantastic lodging options for their guests. There is an abundant amount of shops and restaurants all within walking distance. It’s truly a beautiful location all year around.
6. What is your best wedding advice for brides?
To enjoy the planning process! Although it can be stressful, it can be fun, too! I recommend that they have a few things that take priority at the top of their list. Whether it be the venue, location, catering, music, flowers, photographer, or rentals choose a few that mean the most to them and spend a little extra time on planning those things and budget accordingly. I would also encourage them not to forget the small touches here and there that showcase their personality.
