Sheraton Norfolk Waterside Hotel Wedding
Jennifer and Eric’s Sheraton Norfolk Waterside Hotel Wedding made my heart sing. Garden weddings never fail to woo us, especially when they are pulled off so effortlessly. Jennifer revealed that they honestly had no theme for a really long time, but she really loved flowers and knew she would be including them as the main design element. From that, a light-hearted garden party was born! Thank you to Dustin Lewis Images for capturing it all.
Their Love Story
One of my best friends (and bridesmaid) Lauren was attending the TKE fraternity (Eric’s fraternity) formal during my Sophomore year, and wanted me to go too with a date of my own. So, at a TKE and Alpha Phi (my sorority) barbecue, Lauren pointed out all of the eligible and dateless bachelors of the fraternity. Specifically, she pointed to the guy manning the grill, one Eric. After seeing his gorgeous blue eyes, I was hooked and knew he had to be my date. We decided going together to the formal was a great idea, but wanted to get to know each other and hung out all night at GMU’s Relay for Life. We walked around the track until the morning, and knew by the time the sun rose, we were meant to be. Eric then asked me to be his girlfriend on May 5th, 2012 at TKE’s formal! We have been together for 5 years now and love each other in a deep and abiding sense that we know will stand the test of time. We cannot wait to get married to each of our best friend! Having spent 5 years together with a mix in college, while younger Eric finished, and part in real life, we have seen quite a bit together and can’t wait to see what more comes our way!
Their Wedding Theme/Color Scheme
Her wedding color of mist blue was dictated purely by the bridesmaids’ dresses! She had originally wanted to do lavender, but the dress she liked best for the bridesmaids didn’t come in a light purple and Eric liked mist best- and just like that- they had their wedding color! They were extremely happy that this happened because their venue was on the water and near the Naval base, so mist fit perfectly!
Wedding Planning Advice for Future Couples
We definitely recommend using Pinterest to gather ideas in the initial part of the process with a general wedding board, but creating final boards for each area (flowers, cake, general decor, photography, etc.) as you continue on. This helps immensely when meeting with vendors so that you aren’t scrolling through 10 million pins you have had since you first started dating! This also helped from a mental standpoint of having to make definite decisions before the vendor meetings so that you have your visions narrowed down.
Avoid the Stress
Jennifer thought that managing the guest list was one of the most difficult tasks. She had to think about both space and financial constraints to keep the number close to 100. They both have large families and lots of friends which made things hard. As your Norfolk wedding planner, we recommend creating a realistic budget when you first start planning your wedding.
